Young Racer's Dream Falls Short
From a young age, Jimmy was obsessed with motocross, pouring his energy into becoming the next big star. His family believed in his talent so deeply that they invested everything—money, time, and even their future—into his racing career. His parents mortgaged their home to fund his expensive training, equipment, and travel to national competitions. For years, they chased the dream of signing that elusive pro contract.
But the big break never came. Despite his talent, Jimmy’s career stalled, and he never got the lucrative sponsorship deal his family had hoped for. At 23, after a decade of dedicating his life to racing, Jimmy was left without a clear path forward. With little education, no professional experience outside of motocross, and his family facing financial strain, Jimmy struggled to figure out how to transition to a new career.
How the Endowment Could Have Made a Difference:
The Racer Advancement and Wellness Endowment would have offered Jimmy and his family financial counseling to help them manage the burden of their over-investment in his racing career. Additionally, career transition programs and scholarships would have helped Jimmy gain the skills and education needed to build a new life outside of the racetrack. Through mentorship, Jimmy could have found guidance from former racers who faced similar challenges, helping him develop a new career that leveraged his discipline and work ethic from racing. -

He has sacrificed nearly everything—his education, his social life, and even his health—to pursue his dream of becoming a top-tier racer. Despite his best efforts, that elusive breakthrough never materialized.
Now in his late 20s, Tom is starting to face the reality that his racing career may not take him where he’d hoped. Without a formal education or career experience beyond motocross, he doesn’t know where to turn. The thought of transitioning into a new life is overwhelming, and Tom feels stuck, unable to move forward but unsure of how to let go of the racing dream.
How the Endowment Could Have Made a Difference:
The Endowment’s Career Transition Support would have been a lifeline for Tom, offering job placement services and training to help him find a career path outside of racing. Through scholarships for education, Tom could have gone back to school or enrolled in vocational training to develop the skills necessary for a new career. Additionally, access to mental health counseling would have helped Tom deal with the emotional toll of stepping away from the sport he loves, while offering him the support needed to build a fulfilling new life. -
